Hunting Seasons:

What type of clothing?

  • Appropriate clothing will be very important for the hunter in the bush as well as after hours. Although most clients will arrive in our winter months, it is not necessary to bring lots of thick clothing as the temperatures in the Bushveld during the day are still reasonable. Some nights and the early morning drives can be a little cold or the wind quite chilly.
  • Light jackets and long sleeve shirts will be the best while hunting, and it is not necessary for the serious camo-type as a khaki-type colour will blend very nicely with the type of vegetation found in our Province.
  • A hat will be an important item while hunting, as it can still get hot during the day, again a camo or khaki colouring will work. Sun cream would also be recommended.
  • Give a lot of attention to the type of foot wear that is brought along. It must be a shoe or boot that has already been walked in for quite a while and does not still cause any discomfort to the wearer. Whilst it is not necessary to get a boot just for the bush, they can be beneficial as will cover the foot and shin. Socks should not be the heavy type, as a lot of walking will be done and the feet will need air.

What is cites?

  • Cites can be explained as the world organization that rules the import and export of animal products.
  • Cites 1: If an animal is listed, you need to apply for an import permit into your country, and an export permit from the country where the animal is hunted. The outfitter will arrange the export permit.
  • Cites2: If an animal is listed under cites 2, you will only need an export permit in the country where the animal is hunted. Your outfitter will arrange it for you.

What about insurance?

  • You will be responsible for all your insurance needs as for we do not provide for insurance in our rates.
  • Your must check if you are covered for medical assistance in South Africa and what the procedures to request in the unlikely case of an emergency. Your will not be able to receive any treatment unless you can guarantee payment or proof of cover/benefits.

What Medical Needs?

  • South Africa consists of a well-established hospital group and private doctors in all the towns.
  • Helicopter paramedics are also available if your medical insurance provides for it.
  • Also, the western part of South Africa boarding Botswana is malaria free, but unfortunately the eastern side is not. More information can be obtained from the tropical disease institutes.
  • There are no specific injections required when coming to South Africa, but we do recommend a tetanus shot before you leave your home country.
  • If you are currently taking any chronic medication or prescribe medication, please make very sure that you bring the prescription along, an adequate supply as well as a list of possible replacement medicine if you lose your medicine and we cannot get exactly the same in South Africa.

What are the firearms regulations? (See Firearms Page for further information)

  • You may only import one rifle per calibre.
  • You may only import 200 rounds per calibre.
  • You may not import ammunition for a rifle that your not importing.
  • Handguns will only be allowed for hunting purposes, you need a letter from an association in your country that confirms that the handgun will be used for hunting.

What are Prohibited firearms?

The following firearms may not be imported into South Africa:

  • Fully automatic rifles.
  • Semi Automatic rifles.
  • Handguns for self defence.
  • Weapons that falls under military categories.
  • You may also not hunt with a .22 long rifle.

Bullets?

  • Always make use of high quality premium bullets. It is not worth it to lose a trophy due the poor performance of a low-grade bullet.
  • For dangerous game you will need premium bullets that will expand properly as well as monolithic solids for follow up shots.
  • Bring enough bullets to allow for zeroing in your rifle. There is nothing worse than not to have enough bullets and convert to other bullets while hunting and to waste valuable hunting time to re sight your rifle.
  • We would suggest that you bring at least 50 rounds per calibre.
